The pilgrimage trek to Chauragarh, a Shiva temple on a hilltop above Pachmarhi, where devotees leave thousands of tridents. The trail starts at the end of Mahadev Road near Priyadarshini Point, winds down through Satpura forest, crosses past Nandi Point and finishes with a long flight of steps to the temple, with wide views over the Satpura hills from the top.

General Instructions

About 8.6 km one way on a forest track and steps, so allow a full day for the return walk. The final climb is a long staircase to the temple. Carry water and snacks (there are only a few stalls on the way), wear good shoes, and start early to avoid the midday heat. October to March is the most comfortable season.

Best time to go

Oct–Mar

October to March suits most of the country. The southwest monsoon (June to September) floods the Western Ghats and Kerala, but it is also the main season for Ladakh and Spiti, where high passes are usually open only from June to October.
