Steep Ascent Logic
When approaching a gradient above 15%, engage 4L (Low Range) early. Maintain a steady momentum. If you lose traction, don't spin your tires—this only digs you in deeper. Back down straight and try a different line.
Water Crossings
Always walk the crossing first if the current is fast or visibility is low. Establish the deepest point and look for submerged rocks. Enter at a steady speed to create a 'bow wave' which lowers the water level in the engine bay.
Terrain Pressures
Airing down is the single most effective off-road upgrade. For soft sand or deep mud, drop to 15-18 PSI. For sharp rocks, keep it around 22-25 PSI to protect the sidewalls. Always carry a high-output compressor to re-inflate.
The Golden Rule
As slow as possible, as fast as necessary. High speed is the primary cause of mechanical failure and suspension damage in remote areas.
Wind Loading
High-altitude passes often feature 80km/h+ gusts. Secure all external gear.
Drive Smooth
Avoid jerky steering. Smooth inputs maintain traction and prevent diff-breakage.
Navigation
Don't rely solely on GPS. Always carry a physical map and compass as backup.
