Shiro Meda to Entoto Maryam Hike
A steep climb from the Shiro Meda weavers' market at the foot of the Entoto Mountains up to Entoto Maryam, the first church of Addis Ababa and the site of Menelik II's hilltop palace. The route passes Entoto Kidane Mihret monastery and climbs through eucalyptus forest and farmland with views back over the city.

General Instructions
About 8 km one way and steadily uphill to about 3,000 m; allow 2.5-3 hours up and use a minibus or taxi for the descent. October to February is the clearest season. Addis Ababa sits at altitude, so take it slowly on the first days and avoid walking alone on the forest tracks.
