General Instructions

Typical season: Spring and autumn. Acclimatise before going high, carry warm layers, rain gear, water treatment and enough food, and turn back if anyone shows signs of altitude sickness. Trails can be faint, washed out or snow-covered: go with a local guide if you're not experienced in the Himalaya.

Plan this trip

Before you go: Rara Lake

Best time to go

Apr, May, Sep, Oct, Nov

May to October suits upper Humla and Limi, which lie in a rain shadow. For Rara and the lower Karnali roads, spring (April to May) and autumn (late September to November) are better, because monsoon rain from June to September causes landslides.
