Kohima to Khonoma and Dzüleke

Added on 14 Oct 2026
Logged by @trailx

A short hill drive west from Kohima to Khonoma, an Angami village of terraced fields often called India's first green village, and on to the small eco-tourism village of Dzüleke in a forested valley. Khonoma's villagers set up the Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary in 1998 after banning hunting.

Before you go: Kohima to Khonoma and Dzüleke

Best time to go

Oct–Mar

October to March suits most of the country. The southwest monsoon (June to September) floods the Western Ghats and Kerala, but it is also the main season for Ladakh and Spiti, where high passes are usually open only from June to October.
