The main road from the railhead and airport at Dimapur in the plains up into the Naga hills to Kohima, Nagaland's capital at about 1,260 m. Kohima was the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Second World War, and the Kohima War Cemetery on Garrison Hill marks the end of the drive.

Best time to go

Oct–Mar

October to March suits most of the country. The southwest monsoon (June to September) floods the Western Ghats and Kerala, but it is also the main season for Ladakh and Spiti, where high passes are usually open only from June to October.
