About trails in Gujarat

Gujarat's routes are long road and track journeys across very flat country. The most striking is Khavda to Dholavira - Heaven Road, a short stretch of causeway across the white salt crust of the Great Rann of Kutch toward the Harappan site at Dholavira. Vidhakot border runn of Kutch goes deeper into the same salt desert near the international border, on tracks that are firm when dry and impassable after rain.

Across the Gulf of Kutch, Jamnagar to Gopnath crosses the Saurashtra peninsula to the coast of the Gulf of Khambhat. The Rider mania 2025 route loops through both Kutch and Saurashtra. The Great Indian Trail - Rajasthan is much larger, a multi-week road journey of more than 3,000 km from Banaskantha into the deserts and Aravalli hills of Rajasthan.

Best time to go: November to February is the time to go, when the Rann is dry and hard and daytime temperatures are mild. Summer heat above 40 °C and monsoon flooding of the salt flats (roughly June to September) make many tracks unusable.
Terrain: The land is almost entirely flat, near sea level on the Rann and rarely above 300 m in Saurashtra. The highest point, around 1,165 m, is on the Rajasthan road trip, and all routes are rated easy or moderate.
Permits & access: Much of the Rann near the Pakistan border is a restricted zone, and routes such as Vidhakot need permission from the Border Security Force or district authorities. Visitors to the White Rann near Dhordo buy an entry permit, available online or at the Bhirandiyara checkpoint.
