Polentswa Wilderness Trail

Added on 10 Oct 2026
Logged by @trailx

The longest of the Kgalagadi's Botswana-side wilderness trails: about 257 km of sand track looping from Polentswa on the Nossob River deep into the dune country and up towards the Kaa area. It returns through remote pans and parallel dune streets. It is exclusive and self-sufficient, with only one convoy allowed on the trail each day.

General Instructions

Plan 3 days for about 257 km with high-clearance, low-range 4x4s only. Carry fuel for the whole loop plus a reserve, as sand driving can double consumption. Bring all water, recovery gear, a compressor and a satellite communicator. There is no mobile signal and no help nearby.
