Added on 10 Oct 2026
Logged by @trailx

Tanzania's second-highest mountain, climbed from Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. The route passes through wildlife-rich forest to Miriakamba Hut, climbs to Saddle Hut and Rhino Point, then follows the knife-edge rim of the collapsed crater to Socialist Peak (4,566 m). Kilimanjaro rises across the plains at dawn.

General Instructions

Usually 3–4 days. Meru makes a good acclimatisation climb before Kilimanjaro. The summit ridge is narrow and exposed, with loose ash underfoot, so start at about 1–2 am from Saddle Hut and use trekking poles. The best months are June–October and December–February.
