Lemosho Route
Kilimanjaro's quiet western approach: from Lemosho Gate through montane rainforest to the Shira Plateau, then across alpine desert via Lava Tower, the Barranco Wall and Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), Africa's highest point. The descent follows the Mweka trail. Its long profile gives some of the best acclimatisation on the mountain.

General Instructions
Allow 7–8 days and keep to a climb-high, sleep-low schedule. Summit night starts around midnight from Barafu and temperatures at the crater rim fall well below freezing, so carry full winter layers, a headlamp and insulated water bottles. Descend straight away if symptoms of altitude sickness get worse. The best seasons are January–March and June–October.
