Khövsgöl East Shore Track
The rough track up the east shore of Lake Khövsgöl from Khatgal to Khankh near the Russian border. Khövsgöl is 136 km long and up to 267 m deep, holds about 70% of Mongolia's fresh water and sits at 1,645 m among taiga and mountains. After the first 30 km the track turns into bumpy, muddy trails; the Egiin Gol can flood the flats south of Khatgal. Driving on the frozen lake in winter is forbidden and has cost many lives.
