A short, steep climb up a forested hill north of Alibag to the Kankeshwar Shiva temple. From the road head the path turns into a long stone staircase of several hundred steps through the trees, gaining about 300 m to the hilltop temple, with views over the coconut groves and coast of Alibag.

General Instructions

About 2.5 km one way with roughly 300 m of climbing, mostly on stone steps. Start early or late in the day to avoid the heat, and carry water. In the monsoon (June to September) the steps are wet and slippery but the hill is at its greenest.

Best time to go

Oct–Feb

October to February is the most comfortable season, with clear skies after the rains. The June to September monsoon turns the ghats green but makes rock sections slippery and brings landslide risk, and April and May are hot.
