Hartmann Valley Track

Added on 10 Oct 2026
Logged by @trailx

A remote track up the Hartmann Valley in Namibia's far north-west: from the Kaokoland gravel plains through the wide, sandy valley between the Hartmann Mountains to the Kunene River and the Angolan border. Fairy circles, oryx and the occasional Himba settlement are the only signs of life in this landscape.

Trail Profile

General Instructions

About 70 km one way on sand and gravel, returning by the same route. This is expedition country: travel with two vehicles, and carry extra fuel, water for several days, recovery gear and a satellite communicator. The fragile desert crust takes decades to recover, so never drive off the existing tracks.
