General Zorawar Singh Route: Suru Valley to Leh
A drive along the line of General Zorawar Singh's conquest of Ladakh in 1834 and 1835. From Panikhar the road follows the Suru river down past Sankoo and Kartse, where the Dogra army spent the winter, to Kargil. From there the Srinagar–Leh highway climbs past Pashkum, where the Ladakhis broke the bridge over the Wakha river, to the rock-cut Maitreya at Mulbekh, over the Namika La and Fotu La to Lamayuru, and down the Indus past Basgo to Leh, ending at the fort Zorawar Singh built outside the town.
