Col de la Loze (2,304 m) is one of the great Tour de France climbs. The classic side starts in Brides-les-Bains via Méribel: 21.5 km at an average 7.6%, gaining about 1,700 m. The last 7 km are a cycle-only road with ramps up to 24%. First Tour appearance: 2020 (3 times). Pogačar cracked here in 2023: "I'm gone, I'm dead".

Mid-June to mid-September is the season for high Alpine routes such as the Tour du Mont Blanc; huts are generally open then and passes are mostly clear of snow. Lower routes around Lyon and the Drôme are good in spring and autumn.
