Trails in Massachusetts

Massachusetts trails are short and easygoing, and they spread from the Pioneer Valley in the west to the North Shore. In the Connecticut River valley, the Silvio O. Conte Refuge Walk, Hadley follows floodplain forest and farm fields near the river. Nearby, the Batchelor Street Conservation Hike, Granby climbs the highest ground on the page, still only about 150 m.

Farther east, the Nashua River Rail Trail Walk, Clinton uses a former railroad bed and suits families. The Ogilvie Town Forest Loop, Weston is a quiet woodland circuit in the western suburbs of Boston. For something longer, the Ipswich and Hamilton Gravel Loop links farm roads and woods on the North Shore, and the Dracut Merrimack Valley Drive follows the river country around Lowell. Most routes are easy half-day outings rather than wilderness trips.
