Trails in Arizona

Arizona's routes climb from the Sonoran Desert floor around Phoenix to the pine forests of the Mogollon Rim, a rise of more than 2,000 m. Close to the city, the South Mountain Ridgeline MTB Ride tackles 30 km of rocky desert singletrack in one of the largest municipal parks in the country, and canal paths link Phoenix with Tempe and Mesa.

North of the Valley, the Vultee Arch Trail follows a red-rock canyon in the Sedona backcountry to a natural sandstone arch, a moderate 9 km outing. Higher still, the Mogollon Rim Dirt Roads Drive winds 56 km through ponderosa forest near Pinetop-Lakeside above 2,100 m. For multi-day adventure, Arizona Back Country Routes stitches together more than 2,000 km of unpaved roads from Sierra Vista in the southeast, while the Phoenix to Antelope Canyon Scenic Drive heads north toward the Colorado Plateau and Navajo Nation lands.
