Zaouiat Ahansal to Taghia Gorges

Added on 14 Oct 2026
Logged by @trailx

An old Berber trail leads from Zaouiat Ahansal up the Ahansal valley to Taghia, a village without road access set beneath huge limestone walls that are among the best-known big-wall climbing areas in Morocco. Beyond the village the Taghia gorges continue upstream between sheer cliffs.

General Instructions

Allow about 2 hours each way along old Berber trails; add 2-2.5 hours to walk into the gorge beyond Taghia. A track is being converted into a road along part of the way, so the start may change. Avoid the gorges during storms because of flash floods.
