Added on 14 Oct 2026
Logged by @trailx

A drive from Shillong through Pynursla and down the southern escarpment of the Khasi Hills to Dawki on the Umngot River at the Bangladesh border. The river is known for its clear water in the dry season, and the clean village of Mawlynnong and the living root bridge at Riwai are short detours off this road.

Best time to go

Oct–Mar

October to March suits most of the country. The southwest monsoon (June to September) floods the Western Ghats and Kerala, but it is also the main season for Ladakh and Spiti, where high passes are usually open only from June to October.
