Mount Kenya Naro Moru Route to Point Lenana

Added on 14 Oct 2026
Logged by @trailx

The Naro Moru route is the most direct way up Mount Kenya from the west: a road climbs from the park gate to the Met Station (3,050 m), then a path crosses the steep, wet 'vertical bog' to Mackinder's Camp in the Teleki Valley (about 4,200 m). From there the trail climbs past Austrian Hut (4,790 m) to Point Lenana (4,985 m).

Trail Profile

General Instructions

About 23 km one way from Naro Moru Gate to Point Lenana; usually 3–4 days to the summit. The vertical bog is very muddy in the rains, so aim for January–February or July–September. It is the fastest route up, which makes altitude sickness more likely; allow an acclimatisation day.
