North-east from Bogotá across the high plateau of Boyacá through Tunja, down to Bucaramanga, and over the Andes by Pamplona to Cúcuta on the Venezuelan border. In July 1952 Guevara and Granado left Bogotá by bus along this route, crossing into Venezuela at Cúcuta on their way to Caracas.

Best time to go

Jul, Aug, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar

The Andean region is driest from December to March and again in July and August; the rainy seasons around April to May and October to November bring landslides on mountain roads.
