Sri Lanka Ramayana Trail Drive: Ramboda to Ella
A drive through Sri Lanka's hill country past the places local tradition links with the Ramayana. From the Bhakta Hanuman temple at Ramboda, the road climbs through tea estates to Nuwara Eliya, passes the Seetha Amman temple at Sita Eliya and the slopes of Hakgala, which tradition identifies with the Ashoka grove where Sita was held, then drops through Welimada and Bandarawela to Ella and the waterfall named after Ravana.

About 86 km one way on winding mountain roads, with long climbs and many hairpins. Allow most of a day with stops. Mist and rain are common in the afternoon, especially from May to September around Nuwara Eliya; drive in daylight and watch for buses on the bends.
