Simien Escarpment Trek

Added on 10 Oct 2026
Logged by @trailx

A multi-day trek along the great northern escarpment of the Ethiopian Highlands. It runs from Sankaber to Geech, out to the Imet Gogo viewpoint, along the cliff edge to Chennek and up to the 4,430 m summit of Ras Bwahit. There are 1,000 m drops, gelada herds and a chance of Walia ibex, which is found nowhere else on Earth.

General Instructions

Allow 3–5 days. The dry season, October–March, gives the clearest views, and nights at Chennek drop below freezing. Before you go, check current government travel advice for the Amhara region, where security conditions have been unsettled.
