Sapitwa Peak Trail

Added on 10 Oct 2026
Logged by @trailx

A route to the highest point in south-central Africa. From the Likhubula forestry office the path climbs steeply onto the Chambe Plateau beneath the great granite face of Chambe Peak. It crosses the massif to Chisepo Hut, then follows a marked boulder-and-crack route to Sapitwa Peak (3,002 m), whose name means 'don't go there'.

General Instructions

Plan 2–4 days. The summit section involves boulder hopping, squeezing through cracks and following painted arrows. Never attempt it in cloud without a guide. May–October is the dry season, and the rocks are dangerously slick during the November–April rains.
