Lion's Head Summit Trail

Added on 10 Oct 2026
Logged by @trailx

Cape Town's favourite sunrise and sunset hike. From Signal Hill Road the path spirals around Lion's Head through fynbos, with ever-wider views of the Atlantic Seaboard, Table Mountain and the city bowl. Near the top, chains and staples help with short rocky sections up to the 669 m summit.

About 5.5 km return in 2–3 hours. The chain section is optional: a bypass path leads around it. Carry a headlamp for sunset hikes, wind protection for the summit and plenty of water in summer. The trail is busy at weekends.
