Jomon Sugi Trail via Arakawa

Added on 16 Oct 2026
Logged by @trailx

A long day hike through Yakushima's moss-covered cedar forest to Jōmon Sugi, the island's oldest and largest cedar, estimated at thousands of years old. From the Arakawa trailhead, the route follows an old forestry railway along the river, then climbs on a path past Wilson's Stump and the giant Daiō-sugi to the viewing deck at Jōmon Sugi. Yakushima is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Before you go: Jomon Sugi Trail via Arakawa

Best time to go

Apr, May, Oct, Nov

Mount Fuji's official climbing season runs only from early July to early September. For other routes, April to May and October to November are best. The rainy season (June to mid-July) and the typhoons of August and September can disrupt plans.
