About trails in Valencian Community

The Valencian Community's routes stay inland, in the rough limestone mountains behind the Mediterranean coast. In the north, the Baix Maestrat MTB Ride and the Baix Maestrat Morning Ride cover dry, hilly country near Vinaròs and Benicarló. The Tossal de la Nevera Hike from Catí climbs to over 1,300 m, and its name comes from the old snow pits used to store ice in the mountains.

Further south, the Ibi to Menejador Summit Loop reaches the Menejador, the high point of the Font Roja natural park between Ibi and Alcoi, at nearly 1,350 m. The Ademuz to Teruel Mushroom Drive crosses the Rincón de Ademuz, an enclave of Valencia wedged between Castilla-La Mancha and Aragon, through pine forests known for autumn mushroom gathering.

Best time to go: October to May is the best time; spring brings wildflowers and autumn is ideal for mushroom season. July and August are very hot inland, so start early if you go then.
Terrain: Most routes are hard, with steep climbs over rocky limestone and high points around 1,300 m. Trails are dry and exposed, with little shade or water.
Permits & access: Most trailheads are reachable only by car, as public transport inland is limited. Carry plenty of water, and check for forest fire restrictions in summer, when access to some areas may be limited.
