About trails in Moscow

Moscow's routes are mostly urban road rides, plus two long drives out of the capital. The Moscow Khamovniki Road Ride follows the river bends in the Khamovniki district, and the Moscow City Loop Ride and Moscow City Ride link central avenues and embankments on a bike. The Moscow to Valuyevo Road Ride heads southwest toward New Moscow.

For a break from traffic, the Tyoply Stan Forest Walk, Moscow explores wooded parkland on the Teply Stan upland, the highest ground in the city at around 250 m. The drives leave the city on major highways. Moscow to Vyazma Drive follows the M-1 west into Smolensk Oblast, and Moscow to Zavidovo via M-11 takes the toll motorway northwest toward the Volga reservoirs.

Best time to go: May to September is the cycling season, with long daylight in June and July. Snow usually covers the city from November to March, and spring thaw leaves roads wet and gritty.
